The Korean Skills Quality Authority (KSQA) of KOREATECH held the opening ceremony in the Metro Tower building, Jung-gu, Seoul. Notable figures in attendance included: The Minister of Employment and Labor, Ki-kweon Lee; chief director of Human Resources Development Service of Korea, Yeong-beom Park; president of Koreatech, Dr. Ki-young Kim; and the head of KSQA, Gyeong-hwa Lim.
With the support of government, KSQA systemically supervises approximately 7 thousand training institutions and 40 thousand personal training programs which take part in the vocational training market.
Including administrating corrupted or mismanaged training institutions, they evaluate not only the institutions but also the propriety of the occupational training course and people who take it. These functions were distributed among the Ministry of Employment and Labor's employment center and Human Resources Development Service of Korea.
KSQA is particularly planning to analyze occupational ability development network (HRD-net) to reduce corrupted training processes and investigate suspected institutions. Moreover, they intend to build a system to change the basis of occupational training courses to National Competency Standards (NCS).
"We needed a professional institution to deal with corrupted or mismanaged training processes while we are supporting 3.40 million workers and 0.25 million job seekers with about 1.7 trillion won investment. I hope KSQA could be the one that can contribute to realize ability- oriented society. “Ministry of Employment and Labor Ki-kweon Lee explained.
"In this society, one of the biggest interests of people is concerning job or occupation. Receiving better education means a better possibility to get a better job. We decided to evaluate educational institutions for developing a frame to improve job performance in a field of life-long education. We are eager to train organizations that fit with our national legislations." Dr. Ki-young Kim, the president of KOREATECH stated during the interview with Korea Economic Daily.
